Then I also found this information regarding communication skills.

Then I reviewed my score again on the "Communication Anxiety Inventory." I received a 32. According to the inventory, my level is low and "I am comfortable communicating in most situations and feel confident in anticipating such encounters." I thought this was very interesting because it truly reflects the person I am.
I do think it is important to be aware of ones areas of strength and weakness when communicating with others. I think is it is also important to have strong oral and written communication skills. I do think I need to improve my critical listening and academic writing skills. I feel improving these areas will help me to be more effective in understanding another person's point of view as well as being able to clearly communicate my thoughts with others.
I have always enjoyed reading your blog page. Your entries are informing and your graphics are inviting. After reading this week’s blog entry, I wondered if you had a plan to improve your critical listening skills. I think this is a fascinating area of communications. I would enjoy hearing more about your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading the information that you shared with your colleagues, it is very useful and it can help others. I also found when I took the Communication Anxiety Inventory that the results described me as a person, I have issues when it comes to talking to individuals that I do not know. Thanks for sharing such specific and great details!

you have an interesting blog. thanks for sharing, I enjoyed reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteVanessa,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the information you shared. Listening skills are vital to good communication. I am reminded of the importance of listening when I speak with certain people. There is a parent in my school who will walk up and start a conversation and when the other person is responding to her, she is constantly looking past that person. Her non-verbal communication clearly states that she is not listening even though she might be shaking her head the entire time you are speaking with her. It frustrates me when this happens and makes me aware of how important eye contact is when communicating with others. That focus tells the other person that what they are saying is important to me and this conversation is worth my time. Like Debi, I would also like to hear how you will improve your critical listening skills.

Vanessa, reading your blog helped me to understand my weakness and strengths as it relates to communication. I have anxiety when speaking in front of a small and large group of people that I do and do not know. I have been working to improve my communication skills in these areas. When I was getting my Bachelor's Degree we had to take several critical thinking classes and they were intense. It helped me to think out of the box and ask myself a lot of what if and why not approaches. Just reading you all blogs helped me to understand I am not alone in getting my Doctorate Degree.
ReplyDeleteVanessa,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your visual organizers, those were very helpful to depict communication skills. I too need to improve and strengthen my critical listening skills. I am a thinker and my brain is always on the go so when someone is talking to me I am usually processing what they are saying, but at the same time I am moving on to something else that connects to the topic being discussed. I need to work on completely focusing on the presenter or person speaking so that I may become more of an effective listener and understand the other person's point of view more.
Vanessa,
ReplyDeleteI also liked your visual organizers. I am a visual learner and having this helps me to see how every type of communication is entwined.
